Residents: What do I need to know?

We totally understand that it is a little anxiety-provoking coming to the MICU.  Here are just a few hints:

  1.  Please read the ‘Rounding in the MICU.’  Knowing our philosophy, our approach education / teaching, and duty hours is critical.
  2.  Procedures.  We know you might not be a central line expert.  It’s OK…we are here to help you!  Please watch these videos.
  3. Teamwork.  The MICU is a team unlike no other.  We have to communicate effectively, show respect for each other, and always help out those who are in a hole.
  4. Ask.  If you have any concerns, worries, stresses, etc PLEASE contact Christopher Cox (christopher.cox@duke.edu) or Dan Gilstrap (dan.gilstrap@duke.edu).  We are here to provide confidential assistance any time.
  5. Read.  Please, please take the extra few minutes to read about stuff you see on rounds.  Hey, isn’t there a website for that?
