I am a patient and employee of Duke Health. Recently, I’ve experienced two pregnancy losses, and I am in need of a transabdominal cerclage. Our Cigna insurance denied it. I sent a message to my provider, and the financial counselor, Mia, reached out. She went above and beyond to ensure that my case was taken care of. She spoke directly with my provider and scheduled a peer-to-peer. She called me at every step of the process and assured me she would keep me in touch. She has no idea how hard it has been to manage everything while grieving. She listened to me on the phone and gave me the assurance I needed. She made the process manageable and made me feel like more than just a patient or employee. She made me feel seen as a human.
