The Messageboard (Web App)

The The Messageboard is a cross platform messaging app I wrote using PHP and Javascript. The program could run on any web browser and used an SQL Database to store user account information including chats they were on and their username/passwords. This was the first app I tried to build using account information. I also created push notifications to allow users to receive messages even when not on the chat using OneSignal. I created a companion iOS app that generated push notifications on iPhones and even allowed users to reply directly from a push notification using Apple’s Notification Kit API. used this app at in high school with many of my friends to communicate about homework assignments since the program ran on school Chromebooks as well as mobile phones.

Hi, my name is Ken Kalin. I'm a junior at Duke University. I am double majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the Pratt School of Engineering. This summer I worked as an Electrical Engineering Intern at Acoustic Wells, Inc. (now Amplified Industries), an IOT startup based in Boston, MA.

Computer programming has been one of my passions for a number of years. I have conducted research into deep learning and convolutional neural networks as part of the Young Scholar's Program at Northeastern University. I've developed several websites and mobile applications, including an arcade-style iPhone game called “Bubble Basher” and a cross platform messaging application called “The Messageboard.”

In my free time, I am a licensed Ham Radio operator and have contacted people in many countries around the world with my shortwave radio. I also play guitar in a “rock band” with some of my friends.
