I wrote a math story book for children under the auspices of the Bass Connections “Math before symbols” project led by myself and Professor Elizabeth M. Brannon (now at UPenn) in 2013-2014. The pictures were drawn by Duke undergraduate Cordelia Hao.
In the hope that it might inspire young children to learn something new and exciting about mathematics I have decided to share my book.
The book was written as to project my own view on what math story books for children should be. The main point is that it should contain more mathematics in it and should not minimize mathematics in fear that children may not understand it. Children can understand more mathematics than what the adults think they can.
