Fuqua is a very diverse place, and Latin America is well represented, with around 90 students year to year – that is approximately more than 20% of the class!
As Latin American students, one automatically becomes a member of LASA and gets to meet and interact with Latin people from different countries. This group of peers is there to support and cheer for you during your MBA experience: whether it is guidance through recruiting or help with babysitting, we’ve got each other’s backs!
In addition, a big component of #TeamFuqua is sharing with the broader community, so there are many opportunities for non-Latin students to learn about our cultures through social parties and events, food-tasting experiences, and get-togethers. We take big pride in our culture and enjoy getting the opportunity to showcase it.
Virtually, we constantly host Ask Me Anything sessions for prospective students to join. You can check upcoming sessions here!
In-person, we usually host Happy Hours in our home countries during our vacations (March-May-October-December). Depends on current students’ availability. You can register for these events here.
Additionally, you can always reach out to us through LinkedIn or email if you cannot join a session. You can find our information in the contact us page or here.

Yes you can!
If you come for a campus visit, you can sign up for the Mi Casa Tu Casa program, and we will try to match you with a LASA student to host you during your stay.

Three things make Durham a unique and fantastic place to live:
1. Small Town – Big Family: It’s hard to go to a place in Durham and not run into someone from Duke. Especially if Duke is playing Football or basketball, 99% of the time, you will see someone wearing Duke attire. This makes you feel part of a big family. Besides that, since the town is not that big, it’s easy to make plans with your friends and hang out in Durham’s different options.
2. Nature: This is the place for you if you love nature. Less than a 15-minute drive from Fuqua, you can find more than ten trails for running, walking, biking, or whatever you prefer. All are surrounded by a lot of nature: trees, lakes, and a blue sky if it’s a good day. There’s nothing like going for a run in the fall and coming across landscapes that seem to have come out of a professional photo.
3. Activities: Durham has something for everyone: breweries, wineries, theaters, restaurants, coffee shops, fairs, etc. All of this has two things in common: first, everything is relatively close, no more than 15 minutes driving to get anywhere, and second, people are amiable. Besides that, if you love music and want to see prominent artists (e.g.: Aerosmith), you can go to Raleigh, less than a 30-minute drive from Durham.
Being a Latin American partner at Fuqua means becoming part of the Fuqua family. You are embraced just like any Fuqua student, living the entire experience without the burden of tasks!
The LASA partners group has been essential for adapting to life in a new country.
Additionally, you can find a variety of things to do in Durham, such as English classes.

There are many options to choose from, it really depends on your priorities, your budget and the experience you want to have.
However, Latin American students are concentrated mainly in 3 big apartment complexes: Station Nine, Berkshire Nine, 810 Ninth Street; and 1 house complex: 501 States (we kindly call this the Chilean farm because it is a great place to stay when coming with family!)
