Insurance & Immunizations

Immunizations

The State of North Carolina requires all students to satisfy immunization requirements – both domestic and international.  Class registration will be cancelled if you are not in compliance with immunization requirements (which includes a COVID19 vaccination) and you may be withdrawn from class if you do not remain compliant during your time at Duke. You will receive messages regarding your immunization compliance via your Student Health Gateway which can be accessed on the Student Health Website. Please refer to the Immunization FAQs for more information.

There are several steps to submitting your immunizations. Please review this page and follow the steps. The immunization form is due on December 15, 2024.

Points to note:

-You are a Graduate/Professional student

– You can complete the Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire prior to arrival

-We will have a set time during orientation to get your TB testing and any other vaccinations you need.

If you have any questions on immunizations, please contact Student Health, Immunization Compliance Coordinator at immunizations@duke.edu.

Health Insurance

Medical and Health Insurance is required for all full-time students at Duke University.  Due to the complex nature of the US healthcare system, exchange students are REQUIRED to be enrolled in the Duke Student Health Insurance Plan.  This coverage is required in addition to paying the mandatory student health fee. You will be automatically enrolled and billed in the Duke Student Health Insurance Plan. This insurance is pro-rated for the months that you will be studying at Fuqua. No action is required.

The student health fee allows you to use the Duke Student Health Clinic (on campus) for any illness or minor injury you may have.  If a specialist is needed for any reason or if you should become seriously ill or injured (we hope this does not happen) then you would use your Duke insurance. We will explain this in more detail at orientation.  You will receive an insurance card after you arrive with all your plan information.

Insurance coverage is also required for dependents. US Government requirements for that coverage can be found here.
