General

This course is a laboratory and fieldtrip-based examination of the geological history of Yellowstone Country.  Although our focus is on the activities of the Yellowstone Hotspot over the last 2.5 million years, we will also look at the geological history of the region before the arrival of the volcanic activity, the history of mountain building in the region, landscape evolution, earthquake hazards, and study the local glacial history.   We will also look at the role of National Parks as biodiversity hotspots, wildlife refugia, and general park management policies.
