BigFix Operator Information

BigFix at Duke

BigFix was founded in 1997 and released BigFix Enterprise in the fall of 2002. That same year, Duke entered into a “Development Partner” agreement with the software company, with the BigFix Enterprise platform provided for free to Duke University and Medical Center in exchange for early deployment, bug testing, and collaborative analysis.

In 2010, IBM acquired BigFix and the agreement between Duke and BigFix moved to IBM. Shortly thereafter, the Medical Center decided to no longer participate in beta testing and migrated their deployment to a purchased IBM license. The BigFix Enterprise software was re-branded as Tivoli Endpoint Manager (TEM), then IBM Endpoint Manager (IEM), and eventually back to IBM BigFix. In 2019, HCL Technologies acquired BigFix from IBM with the University remaining a Development Partner, now with HCL.
