Eligibility
Q: Am I still eligible to apply if I have other commitments this summer that will interfere with the schedule of the program?
A: No, unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from students who cannot attend for the duration of the program.
Q: Can students from outside of Durham or who are not in public school apply?
A: Yes, DukeREP accepts applications from students outside of the Durham area. We accept applications from students outside of the Durham Public School system; however, priority will be given to Durham Public School students. We are not able to provide accommodations for out-of-state students.
Q: I am currently a freshman, can I apply for this program?
A: No, DukeREP only accepts applications from rising juniors and rising seniors in high school.
Q: I am currently a senior and will be graduating in 2024, can I apply for this program?
A: No, DukeREP only accepts applications from rising juniors and rising seniors in high school.
Application Materials
Q: Will you send my teacher the Teacher Recommendation Form?
A: No, it is the applicant’s responsibility to inform their recommender about letter requirements, direct them to the online Teacher Recommendation Form, and ensure that they submit their letters by the deadline.
Q: Is it okay to use unofficial transcripts in my application?
A: Yes, official transcripts are not required.
Q: How do I submit an application?
A: Via the online Student Application.
Q: Do I have to submit both essay questions?
A: Yes, please answer and submit each essay question in a separate PDF document. You will be prompted to upload them to the online application.
Workshops
Q: How do the workshops and seminars operate?
A: Workshops and seminars are mandatory for all students accepted into the program. Accepted students will be provided with a schedule of workshops and seminars. The schedule will also be available on the DukeREP website.

A: No, workshops and seminars are mandatory.
Miscellaneous
Q: How many hours a week are students required to commit to the program?
A: Students are required to be on campus for eight hours a day on weekdays, typically from 9 AM- 5PM, for the duration of the program.
Q: What if I have an emergency and need to miss a day? (ex. sick day)
A: In the event of an emergency or sick day, you need to let one of the DukeREP coordinators know.
Q: Can I miss a week of the program for vacation?
A: No, you are expected to be present for the full 7 weeks of the program.
