What would an appointment involve?
We would schedule a ~30 minute appointment based on your availability. You would park in our free garage the day of, and be met by one of our researchers. Your child would get to play with some toys in our warmup room before starting the research activity. Most studies involve an activity like playing a game with toys or watching a puppet show or cartoon. You are welcome to bring any siblings along with you!
Where are we located?
We are located in the B-Wing of Erwin Square in Durham, North Carolina (about 5 minutes from Duke’s campus). Our address is 2200 W Main St (B-Wing), Durham NC 27705.
Where/how do I park to participate?
We offer free parking for all our participants – we will send you directions to our parking garage!
Can I participate in online studies only?
Yes! If you don’t live near Durham or you are only interested in online studies, you can let us know and we will only contact you for those studies.
What happens to the information collected for our research?
If you sign up to participate, your contact information will be stored in a secure database, and a member from our research team will reach out once you are eligible for one of our studies.
If you choose to participate in one of our studies, your child’s information and responses during the session would always be kept confidential and in a secure database! Participant confidentiality is always of utmost importance to us.
What do I get for participating?
- Most children find our activities fun and enjoy coming!
- Your family would get to interact with real scientists who are passionate and informed about how your child thinks.
- You’d help advance our understanding of how children learn and develop
- For most studies, you would receive a prize of your child’s choosing and a research certificate to thank them for their help.
- Additionally, in most studies you would receive compensation, with the amount depending on the type of study.
Are our studies invasive in any way?
No! You or your child can always stop at any time. We use completely non-invasive methods such as fun games, stories, questions, videos, and/or puppet shows. Our studies are NOT intended to diagnose or change your child’s behavior in any way, we are simply interested in how they think!
