Hey everyone! I’m Daud Malik, Duke Class of ’28 and a Brodhead Fellow in the 2025 cohort. I intend to study Chemistry and Public Policy w/ a minor in Cultural Anthropology. Outside of community service, I’m a brother to three sisters, an avid Rubik’s Cube speed-solver, and spend my extra time transposing my favorite songs into sheet music for my cello. I am also a diehard fan of anything Cincinnati. Who Dey!
My academic passions lie in therapeutics, minority health, and theistic evolution. Professionally, I’m drawn to the intersection of social needs and chronic illness. What began as a journey in education reform ultimately led me to child health, where I now focus on reducing infant mortality. My summer as a Brodhead Fellow was a perfect fit for this path!
Community Partner: Michael Fisher Child Health Equity Center
Population Focus: Inner-city youth in Cincinnati
In Cincinnati, Ohio, I worked alongside the Fisher Center to help get life-saving medication for kids with chronic illness. This included over 130 kids at two Title 1 schools. I also continued to volunteer in the respective neighborhoods by holding health fairs with the Cincinnati Cancer Center (my 2024 Gateway Fellow project!)
Please enjoy an outlook of my summer! I hope you can join me in learning a little bit about how local initiatives are the first step in creating social safety nets.
