An International Management Consulting Career: Insights from Jane Wang, Ph.D., Associate Partner at McKinsey and Company

As an Associate Partner with McKinsey & Company, Jane Wang, Ph.D.’16 serves top global high-tech companies and “internet unicorns” in product development and new business building. She also serves top global pharma companies on digital transformation. Dr. Wang received her B.S. in Biological Technology from Nankai University and her Ph.D. in Pharmacology, together with a certificate in Global Health, from Duke University. In this session, Dr. Wang will share her leadership experience working in management consulting in the U.S. and China and reflect on how a graduate education has prepared her for a career in management consulting. Please bring your questions for a lively conversation!

The Consulting Forum: Generalist vs. Specialized

Interested in consulting? Join Duke’s APD (Advanced Professional Degree) Consulting Club to learn about different kinds of management consulting jobs with generalist vs. specialist firms. At the forum, industry experts will educate the participants about their firms and careers in consulting. In addition, participants will have the chance to meet in breakout rooms with experts from top consulting firms. We will be joined by Andy Gilbert, former Principal at Booz Allen Hamilton; Alix Michael, associate at McKinsey; Lucas Rocha-Melogno, senior environmental health scientist at ICF; and a consultant from Clearview.

What is Management Consulting? An Introduction with the Members of the APD Consulting Club

Are you curious about how you can apply your research skills in a consulting career? Join us for this workshop offered in collaboration with the APD Consulting Club (Advanced Professional Degree Consulting Club) to learn about careers in management consulting. In addition to hearing an overview of the sector, participants will have the chance to meet in breakout rooms with PhD students and recent graduate alumni from humanities, social sciences, and STEM disciplines who have succeeded in the hiring process with Big Three firms. We’ll be joined by Cody David, PhD candidate in Religion and co-President of the APD Consulting Club; Urann Chan, PhD candidate in Neurobiology; Anandita Ananthakumar, PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering; and a social sciences PhD candidate. Graduate students, postdocs, and recent alumni of The Graduate School are welcome.
