Ed Discussion
We are using Ed Discussion (use your first.last@duke.edu to login) for this course as our Q&A platform. It can be also be accessed through Canvas on the sidebar. Please ask all course-related questions on Ed. Furthermore, you are strongly encouraged to not only ask questions on Ed but answer your peers’ questions! Try to engage with each other here to discuss, answer, or follow-up on each others’ posts. Alex and our incredible course staff will be monitoring Ed throughout the semester. You are welcome to post anonymously or to make private posts if you have specific questions about your own work.
When posting on Ed, we ask that you follow the following guidelines:
- You should never post your own solutions publicly for other students.
- Be respectful of all other members of the course at all times.
- Try things on your own and search for other similar questions before posting your own questions.
- Be specific in your question. For example, we need more information than “how do I solve problem 2” (remember to try things on your own first, so you should have more details to provide than this).
For personal concerns/comments/questions, please email Alex and/or Violet directly.
Office Hours
Office hours are the built-in structure for you to get help. That could mean you have questions about conceptual questions from lecture or discussion, homework, or anything else.
Regular office hours will begin the week of January 13. Office/helper hours will never be held on university holidays or breaks.
We have in-person and virtual office hours staffed Saturday through Tuesdays with the following schedule. Note that we use a queuing system in UTA office hours to ensure fair access to help; please read the instructions here on how to utilize UTA office hours. All times listed in US Eastern Time.
- UTA Office Hours:
- Saturday: Virtual 12pm – 2pm on Zoom at this link (also viewable on Canvas). Requires that you use your Duke Zoom account for security, not a personal Zoom account. If you have accidentally created a personal Zoom account using your @duke.edu address, use the SSO login option instead of a personal password.
- Sunday: Virtual 6pm – 8pm. Same Zoom info as above.
- Monday: In-person 5pm – 7pm in Physics 128.
- Tuesday: In-person 7pm – 9pm in Physics 130.
- GTA Office Hours, all Virtual at the usual link:
