We are a Research Laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology. We investigate the role of transporter proteins in nutrient and metabolite import/export and their impact on cell state and response to chemotherapeutics. We mainly use unbiased genetic screening approaches in cell and animal models followed by an array of cell biology, biochemistry and analytical chemistry techniques to identify critical small molecule transporters across different environments, characterize their function, and explore how the tumor microenvironment impacts cancer metabolism. Our research aims to guide the development of metabolic strategies to suppress tumor growth, and aid precision medicine efforts by revealing determinants of drug sensitivity.

The Chidley lab welcomes and values members from diverse scientific and personal backgrounds. We believe that inclusive teams, composed of scientists from varied perspectives, are essential to advancing biomedical research that benefits society at large. Our aim is to foster a supportive and enriching lab environment where every person is respected, feels valued and is empowered to contribute to significant scientific discoveries. As a group, we work together to ensure that each lab member receives valuable constructive feedback on their research, because we know that experimental science can be challenging. Chris is committed to providing mentoring tailored to each member’s needs and is always available to help with research ideas and directions, give experimental advice, or chat about your career path.

We are recruiting at many levels. Please reach out to discuss opportunities:

We host graduate students enrolled in Duke-affiliated programs. Please email to set up a meeting to discuss potential rotation projects. We offer diverse projects across the fields of cancer biology, pharmacology, and transporter biology. Projects are primarily hypotheses-driven questions, unbiased genetic screening, or method development.
Please reach out by email with (i) a cover letter discussing specifically why our lab would be a good fit for your scientific and career goals, (ii) your CV, (iii) the name and contact information of 3 references.
Please express your interest by email, and include a copy of your CV. We are especially interested in post-bac research technicians willing to spend 2 years in the lab.
