Conclusion

While society has become more and more secular as we have modernized, many people still look to the Bible to make sense of the world, especially with regards to controversial topics. The right to abortion and the status of women and LGBT groups are topics that are linked to real people and their experiences, so we should try to be as fair as possible. It is important to recognize the danger in oversimplifying the Bible. The Bible has persisted for millennia, and as such, it is not as universally applicable as some would like it to be, since translating a text into different languages over centuries leads to some uncertainty in meaning. As we confront new challenges that would be inconceivable for those living in biblical times, we must acknowledge the context of the Bible verses we look to. Though oppression may be created in translation, it can be alleviated through critical analysis of the text, eventually leaving us with a more impartial perspective.
