Introduction

The Bible is deeply ingrained into the fabric of many people’s lives. The problem, however, is that there is no such thing as the Bible, since different religious groups have their own views of what texts are involved. As a document that is presented as a moral guide, the Bible is central in conversations about “moral” issues, such as the rights of minority groups and other controversial topics. The malleability of the Bible, however, can result in people misusing the Scripture to further an agenda. It’s important that we consider the history of biblical translation and dissect verses that concern these issues, in order to gain a clearer understanding of what the Bible says, though we can never know what it really means.
