Bing Ho

Bing is a senior majoring in Biology and Chemistry from Boise, Idaho. He joined the Agris laboratory in 2017 and has been investigating the effects of non-canonical codon sequences on cardiovascular function- particularly during the event of heart failure. Bing works on an independent project with Dr. Agris elucidating the effects of the calcium-regulating protein phospholamban (PLN) to characterize how codon usage bias regulates PLN expression and cardiac contraction. The ability to contribute to the uncovering of novel gene therapy options for individuals suffering from heart disease excites his passion for research. Outside of the lab, Bing is the head lecturer of the cardiovascular treatment and distribution house course in collaboration with Dr. Kenneth Poss from the department of Biology and is the president of the Duke Health & STEM Connect organization- Duke’s umbrella student group for K-12 chronic health education that focuses on implementing primary prevention lessons for adolescents in Durham and abroad.
