Unpredictable

One of my favorites about HHRF program is the biweekly faculty talks. I enjoy them not only for the science and research that they shared with us, but also for their own personal stories that led them to a career of science and research. One of the biggest questions to answer in college is: what should I do for the rest of my life? I’ve always been wondering who and where I will be in 10 years or even longer, and it is always beneficial to listen to the life stories of others. However, the conclusion I got from the faculty talks is that: we never know. So many of the stories are full of chances elements and interesting turning points. There is no way I can ever predict my future path. However, this is also what’s exciting and thrilling about life: there are always surprises. And the most memorable faculty talk that gives me important messages about leading a wonderful life is Dr. Willard’s. His story is one of the most different ones. However, he ended up with what he really loves eventually because he was able to be very open-minded. He found out his passion while waiting in a library. And then he stuck to his passion and led a career path that’s completely different from what he expected. Right now, I really enjoy doing research. Really, what’s more interesting and rewarding than finding out something that no one else knows? What’s better than doing things you love and also get paid? What drives me to lab is my curiosity and eagerness to find out the answer to my questions. I will keep doing research since this is what I am passionate about, at least so far. We can’t predict the future. But open your eyes and believe in your passion. They will always lead you to where you really belong.
