I feel so lucky to have heard from so many different faculty members who have presented their own fascinating research and pieces of advice in addition to their own path in getting to where they are now.
With that I was most captivated by Dr. Mohamed Noor’s talk, I was effectively hooked by both his method of presentation and his presentation itself. Before Dr. Noor’s talk I did not really know nor delved into the field of evolution and never really considered it something that would interest me, yet Dr. Noor managed to do so. This was in large due to the way Dr. Noor merged science with popular culture. While I have never explored the universe that is Star Trek, I was captivated to the point where even though I was sleep deprived that morning I felt so engaged and didn’t want to miss any part of his talk. It really the topics he was presenting more connected to the individual, and I hope to in the future also present science with something that connects with the audience as an individual.
Finally, I really took to heart Dr. Noor’s piece of advice of just going for whatever you are pursuing and advocating for yourself. Don’t wait and think that opportunities will just come to you, you have to be proactive and push for it, even if like Dr. Noor means calling up an institution to give you a job!
