Pseudouridine and Its Effects on Plant Immunology – BSURF 2023, Week 2

By: Kibir Elias

Pseudouridine is a modification in eukaryotic RNA that, although it is the most common type of RNA modification, is not fully understood in terms of its function, especially during plant immune responses. This project intends on discovering the effects and importance of pseudouridine on plant immune regulation.

One aspect that we are looking to uncover is/are the protein(s) involved in pseudouridine modification. Through finding these proteins, we hope to discover pathways involved in plant immune responses. Furthermore, to characterize the features of pseudouridine mutation, we intend on exposing plants known to have this mutation to a variety of biotic and abiotic stressors.

By carefully assessing the differences in performance between wild type and mutant lines faced with assorted stressors, we hope to learn more about the role that pseudouridine plays in plant immune responses.
