Chloroplast Chronicles: A Summer of Green Discoveries

By: David Su

Welcome to my research blog! As a member of the Onishi Lab, I am embarking on an exciting summer research experience delving into the world of chloroplast division proteins. Join me as I share my expectations, experiences, and aspirations for this captivating scientific journey.

Just a year ago, the concept of research seemed abstract and distant, conjuring images of mysterious laboratories and unknown liquids. However, my time in the Onishi Lab has transformed my perspective. The lab is not only a place of scientific inquiry but also a welcoming community of approachable and friendly individuals. This nurturing environment has created the perfect setting for personal and intellectual growth. As I embark on this summer research experience, my aspiration is to fully immerse myself in the lab’s dynamic, gain independence in my work, and contribute meaningfully to the exploration of ARC6: an important protein involved in chloroplast division. My current research focus revolves around looking at the localization and function of chloroplast division proteins. By studying these proteins, we aim to unravel the intricate machinery responsible for ensuring the proper division and distribution of chloroplasts.

As I progress through my summer research experience, I aspire to achieve several goals. Firstly, I hope to contribute to the body of knowledge surrounding chloroplast division proteins by generating valuable data and insights. Additionally, I aim to enhance my scientific skills, including experimental design, data analysis, and critical thinking. Moreover, I am eager to develop autonomy in the lab, where I can plan and execute experiments independently while seeking guidance from my mentor and fellow lab members when needed. With an open mind, a thirst for knowledge, and a supportive lab environment, I am confident that this summer research experience will offer immense personal and intellectual growth.
