Hi all,
My first week in Dr. Warren Grill’s lab was a huge learning experience. On my first day I sat down with my secondary mentor, Brandon Swan, and he explained my assignment to me; figure out how to analyze pain map images on Matlab. Not having any experience with Matlab I was very daunted by the task, and set out self-teaching myself a program I heard engineers complain about all of freshman year. This was one thing I was not expecting from my internship, but something that I believe will be invaluable to me in the future.
Now onto the things I do expect from my research internship.
I’m expecting to gain a lot of knowledge and experience, and to build valuable relationships within my field of interest. I expect to surprise myself by what I can achieve in 8 weeks, and to do something I can be proud of by the end of my internship. Whether this will be a published paper or not I’m not sure, but either way the poster I hope will reflect a great amount of self-growth and achievement on my part. I also hope to become integrated into the lab, and maybe continue in the lab even after the HHRF program ends.
My expectations are set high, and I’m excited about what the next seven weeks will hold for me.
