These past 8 weeks for the HHRF were intriguing and exciting. Each and everyone of us were given the opportunity to participate in a research project and work with PIs, grad students, undergrads and even post docs and I am grateful to have such an opportunity! I was quite inspired by all the talks that faculty made and was really interested in the research they were performing. Each of the lessons we learned in the lab or in the program really aided our knowledge of the inner workings of how research is performed and how the lab itself operates. The chalk talks allowed to practice speaking with our peers about our research and to share a bit about what each of us are doing in our respectful labs. I am saddened that this is the end of the program for the summer of 2015, and I wish we had more time to learn and to work on our respectful projects (or even start new ones within the same or different labs).
Working in Oas lab was a unique experience for me where it was more about learning about the lab and its workings than completely focusing on a particular project. Along with my primary project (and working and learning in Mathematica), I assisted in other peoples projects in my lab and learned about what they are doing and how I can apply that knowledge to my project and future projects. While working with a grad student and 2 undergrads, I became more and more inclined to continue with my career in research with plans to to to grad school after my 4 years at Duke University.
The close of this program isn’t truly an end, it is the start in a new era in our careers as we continue our research and plan our futures. I would like to thank Dr. Grunwald, Dr. Picard, Dr. Calixte, Dr. Oas, soon to be Dr. Daniels, HHMI, Oas lab, and all of the people I have worked with this summer for the amazing experience, guidance and opportunity.
