The summer faculty presentations were a fantastic way to hear about what research is happening on campus and how the established faculty became scientists. Of these presentations my favorite was Dr. Susan Alberts presentation. It was fascinating hearing about the different baboon behaviors and how they impact their health and longevity.
The most interesting aspect of her research to me was that it was not like most of the other research that we had been hearing about. Rather than a typical lab experience where she worked in lab the entire time, she split her time between lab work and field research. This was interesting to me because she was able to combine two things that I enjoy, research in a lab and exploring the outdoors.
Also, her presentation was my favorite because it had many easy to see implications into human lifestyle. It was fascinating seeing how large behaviors fit into longevity compared to the normal presentation where it focused very specifically on a molecule.
