Reflection of Chalk Talks

By: Jonathan Grego

The Chalk Talks presented this week were all very interesting. It is intriguing to learn about all the different types of research that is going on in the HHRF including the similarities and differences between each person’s lab. What I love even more is that we could discuss them inside and outside the chalk talks and gain a better understanding of what science is like. Although everyone’s project was very informative and interesting (I would love to learn more about them all!), Adam’s research on ultrasensitivity in CRISPR intrigued me the most.

Adam’s work on finding a biological “on/off switch” using CRISPR really caught my eye for it could be an integral/supportive factor to my own research with biosensors, or molecules that are designed to detect other molecules, along with other areas of research which may require this. If it is anyone’s project that can work directly or indirectly with everyone else’s projects, it would be Adam’s. I noticed that CRISPR is an important aspect in other people’s labs in HHRF and success within this project will have influences within such projects. Like my project, Adam’s is a precursor to hundreds of other projects which may solve many human problems in the future like cancer or diabetes. It is intriguing to learn about all the possible applications with Adam’s work!
