About Us

Mission

  • To further educate Duke Kunshan University students and staff about relevant global health issues
  • To allow student writers to experience reading and writing academic-style articles
  • To discuss and analyze global health topics in a uniquely multicultural environment

Background

Founded in April 2020 by Ege Kaan Duman (the former founding Vice President) and May Thongthum (the current founding President) under guidance of Prof. Chenkai Wu, the Young Leaders in Global Health Newsletter originally focused on spreading information about the COVID-19 pandemic to the Duke Kunshan University student body. Now, more than a year and ten issues later, the newsletter has progressed to covering other topics, such as college health and world population. With the support of Professors Joseph and Laura Davies and a team of ten writers, the newsletter has grown considerably, and continues to educate students and faculty alike about advancements in global health. The Global Health Newsletter, published on a bimonthly basis, features a mix of research summaries, interviews with experts, and original articles that highlight a chosen issue topic.

Testimonials

Writing for the newsletter has been a great experience for me; it has introduced me to academic journalism and has helped me discover a passion for healthcare-related topics.

Having support from our editors, Prof. Joseph Davies and Prof. Laura Davies, my writing skills have also improved. The skills learned can be applied to many fields, not just limited to global health and medicine
