Dr. Van Cappellen and Dr. Edwards will be guest editing a special issue on hope in The Journal of Positive Psychology. The special issue will open with a target conceptual article followed by invited commentaries. The second part, seeks to accelerate empirical research on hope across different perspectives (affective science, social and intergroup processes, existential psychology, religion and philosophy, cross-cultural work).

Studies employing experimental, longitudinal, daily diary, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches are all welcome. Submissions may examine hope as emotion, social process, existential resource, cultural practice, and more. Together, we aim to expand the scientific foundation of hope while honoring C. R. Snyder’s legacy. To view the full invitation, click the dropbox below or download the document by clicking here.

Interested authors or anyone with questions about the suitability of their work to the special issue can reach out directly via email to Dr. Van Cappellen (patty.vancappellen@duke.edu) and Dr. Edwards (megan.edwards@duke.edu).

The deadline for submissions is June 1st, 2026. Submit here and select the Special Issue: https://rp.tandfonline.com/submission/
