Travel & Lodging

The conference will be held at the Durham Convention Center (DCC) in downtown Durham, which is about one mile away from Duke University’s East Campus. For parking and driving directions, please visit this website.

Transportation Options:

  • RDU (Raleigh-Durham Airport) is the major airport serving Durham. Traffic from the airport to Durham is usually light. Expect a 15-20 minute trip if taking a cab or share-ride service.
  • Amtrak trains serve Durham, and the Downtown Durham stop is walking distance from the convention center and the Durham Marriott City Center (conference hotel)

Accommodation:

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Durham Marriott City Center, adjacent to the Convention Center. Please note that we have a limited number of rooms available at the conference rate of $199/night for the duration of the conference.  Please book early using the information from your registration confirmation email!

Alternative hotels within walking distance of DCC:

  • Unscripted: This is a budget hotel. It is clean and reliable, but known for being noisy on the weekends.
  • 21C: A boutique hotel plus museum.
  • The Durham: A boutique hotel with midcentury modern style and an excellent restaurant.
  • Marriott Residence Inn: Located in Trinity Park, which is about a 15 min walk from the Durham Convention Center and cheaper than the boutique hotels downtown.
  • Air BnB: look for apartments in Downtown Durham or Brightleaf Square
  • Unfortunately, Duke policy does not allow the matching of visiting graduate students with local graduate student hosts so the conference organizers cannot oversee such a lodging program.
