Faculty Remarks:
I first met Sam in spring 2019, when I became his English department advisor. Sam was then a junior, and he already had a good sense of his plans for the next year—a situation that sometimes encourages students to make relatively brief, pro forma visits to their advisors. Happily, this was not the case with Sam, and we had a wonderful conversation about Sam’s past coursework and his plans for the summer and next semester. We’ve repeated that pattern in each subsequent semester, and it has been an absolute pleasure to get to know Sam and to learn about his experiences as an intern at Saturday Night Live and the Daily Show, and his plans for his post-Duke future. As Quantá Holden, the English department Web and Communications Specialist, and I noted to one another at one point, Sam’s energy and interests exemplify everything that is great about our major, and I look very forward to following Sam’s post-Duke career. – Rob Mitchell
