Isabelle McMullen is a senior at Duke on the pre-med track majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She started this research as part of her Duke Cancer systems biology research internship with Dr. Jason Somarelli. Dr. Somarelli then shared these results with some collaborators and she was able to continue to work on the project as an independent study through his comparative oncology lab. Through continuing this project, McMullen was able to get her first paper published in Computational and Structural Biotechnology Journal. She is very interested in cancer research was given the opportunity to shadow surgical oncologist, Dr. Will Eward, in Duke Hospital. McMullen plans on attending medical school after Duke, and these experiences have sparked her interest in pursuing a career in surgery.
