Jabril Wilson collected data for his research thesis this summer. He remotely interviewed members of a community in Farende, Togo, to gain insight on local economic principles.

  1. Very interesting project! Based on your knowledge, where else around the world do you think your findings could be applied in an economic development project?

  2. I was very intrigued by this project! Especially, your finding that the incentive of interest regifting had such a large impact on participation and repayment. I believe that a similar concept has been in practice in Israel, where lenders loan sums with no interest, and it has achieved success in small communities. Do you think these types of lending practices will only be applicable to the micro level or have potential to be more widespread?

  3. This is a really fascinating project! The results after the added incentive of interest regifting are especially interesting. What do you think the results would look like if an organization wanted to scale a project like this but needed to see some return on interest to cover operating costs or remain viable? For example, if an organization regifted 90-95% of interest at the completion of repayment, how do you think this might affect repayment rates and the long-term viability of the project?

Incredibly interesting work! I’d love to hear your thoughts on how slightly altering some of the conditions might affect behavior.

  4. This is a cool project, and I’m glad you were able to find such interesting results. I love that you mixed the quantitative balance sheet analysis with the qualitative interviews. Your poster is incredibly clear and does a good job outlining your main aims, methods, and results. Amazing work, like always! 🙂
