Bridging Americas Summer Enrichment Project

Gianni Lacey-Howard completed a 7-week project studying the Native American language of Tutelo-Saponi. The project takes its form as a children’s book promoting cultural enrichment and good emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical health.

  1. Hi Gianni, thank you so much for sharing your work and story with all of us. I really enjoyed hearing about the process behind your book and love how you stay connected to your community and culture at Duke. The illustrations look amazing, and I can’t wait to see what you will accomplish next!

  2. Oh my gosh, Gianni, this is so amazing! The book is adorable, and a really clever use of the art-ifying digital AI programs available. I’m curious if you think grammar could be taught like this, too? Haven’t heard of that being done before, so it might be fun to explore!

  3. Hi Gianni!! This idea is so original and cool! I love the intersectionality and the fact that you made sure to involve numerous members of your tribe at multiple levels of your project. I could definitely see others creating similar projects for other languages. Great job!!
