  1. Hi David! I’m a big fan of your work, specifically your ability to adapt to “Zoom school” in this complex time while still building strong relationships with your students and peers. You mentioned that you read and discussed To Kill a Mockingbird, and that it was interesting to talk about during all of the BLM protests this past summer. How did you navigate the conversation regarding race relations with middle school students? Would you say you were more cautious with them than you would be with a high school or fellow college student? Thanks!

  2. David I’m so proud of you!! I would love to talk more with you at some point about going into teaching post-Duke — I feel like we might have a lot in common there. And YES to “space for joy, praise, and goofiness”!

  3. David this is absolutely incredible work, I am so proud. I remember when I stayed in your room for finalist weekend!!! Figuring out how to do online school could not have been easy, but I have no doubt your grace and charm made it all worth it!!

  4. Hi David! This program sounds super interesting and I’d love to hear more about your experience discussing TKAM during the height of the BLM movement this summer. I was wondering if you could elaborate more on how your program adapted to the virtual learning experience, especially considering the low-income status of the children in the program. Did you encounter any difficulties with students accessing learning materials, balancing their education and other external factors, or anything else similar? I know it’s been difficult at the summer programs in Charlotte to ensure kids have reliable internet access and materials to be able to continue their education while not actually in school. I wanted to know if you found that to be the case in your program as well.

  5. Love your passion for education! Has your Spanish major allowed you to teach in diverse spaces where some families/students preferentially speak Spanish?
