The recommended dose size is shown for a range of body masses using data from Speakman (1997) Doubly Labelled Water: Theory and Practice. Dose sizes are applicable to humans and other mammals, assuming the dose material is enriched to 10% H218O and 6% 2H2O (standard enrichment for human studies). For a participant between the body masses shown, use the next larger size (e.g., for a 52 kg participant, use the 55 kg recommended dose of 65.2 g). These are recommended doses. Administering a dose within 10% of the recommended dose size is acceptable, but it is generally better to err on the side of giving an oversized dose rather than an undersized dose. Always be sure to record the actual dose amount administered, to the 0.1 g.
