  • Develop knowledge to advance patient care through research; be proficient in the conduct of research within clinical practice
    • Attend and actively participate in all monthly seminars with the program director and research mentors
    • Participate in a research study with measurable outcomes with a timeline that addresses the institutional nursing research priorities
    • Attend Duke research programs to include observing an IRB meeting and other relevant research programs that focus on methods and processes as indicated by the individual research project(s). For example, attend DOCR research education offerings, meet with Grant Manager to prepare and justify a budget, submit an application(s) for funding
    • Develop science and design methodology for study; seek statistical consultation regarding the methodology and design
    • Develop a knowledge base of research resources available to nursing researchers at Duke: medical library, DUSON programs, Duke Office of Clinical Research (DOCR)
    • Meet with the Program Director and or Mentor regularly to ensure timely project completion
    • Develop collaborations with members at multi-disciplinary levels
    • Attend CE programs offered on research design and methodology within the Duke Office of Clinical Research (DOCR) system
    • Become an active participant in facilitation and translation of research into practice
    • Share research activities with other scholars and disseminate results; Present knowledge gained through scholarly inquiry at national and international meetings
    • Disseminate research activities to advance new knowledge and advance patient care (e.g. Abstract submissions at nursing and Interdisciplinary meetings, nationally and globally)
    • Become a leader in local, national, and international groups dedicated to advancing knowledge through nursing research
