Russell is currently working on the development of a novel bone augmentation material to improve outcomes following kyphoplasty. He recieved a BS in chemistry/biology from Harvey Mudd College (2012) and an MD and PhD from Washington University in St. Louis (2019). He completed his thesis under the guidance of Shelly Sakiyama-Elbert with a dissertation entitled “Elucidating the Roles of Astrocyte-derived Factors in Recovery and Regeneration Following Spinal Cord Injury.” He completed his surgical internship at St. Louis University (2020) and is now an Interventional Radiology Resident at Duke. He enjoys cooking, road biking, travel, trying new restaurants, and spending time with his family and cats.
