April 2025 Staff Meeting Updates

Joint commission and general reminders:
All staff to ensure no patient medications are left in hydration stations or patient rooms.
All staff to clean glucometers and bases, even when not in use.
All staff to label all strips and solutions in patient rooms.
All staff to secure oxygen tanks and not leave them unsecured in hallways.
All staff to check carts for expired items and remove them.
All staff to wipe blood droplets from counters and equipment after use.
All staff to ensure emergency call cords in bathrooms are free-hanging and not wrapped.
All staff to lock computers when walking away from them.
All staff to complete documentation for starting/discontinuing restraints and ensure orders do not expire.
All staff to chart “continued existing infusion” when continuing infusions started in ED or OR.
All staff to remove emergency medications from rooms after procedures are completed.
All staff to return unused medications to the medication room.
All staff to notify leadership if medication carts are not locking properly.

The committee plans to roll out more education on the Lucas device and Life Pack, along with code debriefs and simulations. They have also created a QR code for accessing resources and are seeking new committee members. The Pain Committee reports significant improvement in pain audits, with compliance increasing from 30-40% to 80%. The team is preparing for an upcoming Joint Commission visit, emphasizing the importance of maintaining readiness and proper practices. Patient Care Updates and Reminders We provided updates and reminders on various topics related to patient care and compliance. We emphasized the importance of proper labeling, cleaning, and storage of medical equipment and supplies. We also discussed changes in practice, including the extension of A-line usage from 4 to 7 days and the introduction of new tube feeding pumps. We remind staff to be vigilant about checking A-line connections and fluid bags. Lastly, We mentioned the implementation of purple signs for purple banner patients and encourages feedback on this new system. Also addresses the need to complete required modules and offers the opportunity for additional educational sessions from the APP team. Transparency, Collaboration, and Team Growth We discussed the importance of transparency and honesty in the team’s interactions, emphasizing the need for open communication and collaboration. She also highlighted the need for systematic progression in the clinical ladder and encouraged team members to reach out for support. We also addressed the issue of incivility within the team, urging everyone to treat each other with kindness and respect. Brandie shared insights on the financial aspects of the organization, explaining the need for growth and expansion to ensure sustainability. We acknowledged the team’s efforts in managing the current staffing situation and expressed gratitude for their hard work. The team also discussed the upcoming opening of a new general medicine unit and the potential for more onboarding in the future. Lastly, we encouraged team members to share their frustrations or concerns in an open forum.
