The Lack of Us

The Lack of Us

There are many qualities in which describe and are part of the culture in which we live in today. Tn the novel The World We Made many of these characteristics were not present in descibing the futuristic world of 2050. To begin with, and probably the most important aspect of life, was the lack of describing human behavior. There was plenty of talk about how technology advance and the effects of different legislative installations but nothing about how humans reacted. After all, our behaviors caused the problems that we have so is in not it clear that our behavior should play a role in how we fix the issues? Apparently not to the author of the novel. For me I believe that everything that was illustrated in the novel was driven by human behavior. Creativity for advancements in technology are inspired by human behavior and interactions. Apple created facetime so that humans could interact with one another by seeing that other individual on a screen and not being limited to only listening to a voice. It is how we interact with one another and why we interact with one another that causes change. Not only socially but also legislatively.

A sub-catagory that was not depicted in the novel was also race and gender. Right now that is a hot topic of debate. It also clarifies how individuals interact with one another. So i guess if there was no human behavior no race or gender could have been expressed either. Part of the reason I believe that the author did not incorporate these aspects into the novel is because they have a negative connotation attached to the subjects. Incorporating those aspects all would ruin the vision of having a sustainable future that is perfect, an ecotopia. The books main purpose was to promote home not raise fears.
