The Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program (HPREP) program is designed to inspire and support high school students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and the health professions. HPREP consists of 8 in-person sessions held from January to May at Duke University School of Medicine.
Program Goals:
– Provide exposure to the vast opportunities available in health professions.
– Facilitate meaningful interactions between high school students, medical students, and faculty from medical institutions.
– Raise awareness of the unique healthcare challenges faced by minority and economically disadvantaged communities.
– Strengthen students’ motivation to pursue careers in the sciences through intellectual and sociocultural experiences.
– Offer guidance on college survival skills, the premedical curriculum, and preparation for the college application process.
To achieve these goals, students receive mentorship and personalized feedback on final presentations, interviewing techniques, and personal statement writing, ensuring they leave with valuable insights and tools for their future educational journeys.
