Through the Duke Office of Research Support website, established investigators can learn about new sources of funding and new developments affecting the grant seeking process.

- Login into myREARCHhome with your Duke NetID and password and search for internal and external funding opportunities through the new ‘myFundingOpportunities’ Widget. Under the recommended tab, create your research profile and the tab will automatically populate recommended funding opportunities based on this profile.

External Platforms and Resources
EXTERNAL PLATFORMS AND RESOURCES, accessible to the public, funding opportunities
- Pivot – Pivot provides an extensive database for searching funding opportunities (internal and external) and detailed scholar profiles of potential collaborators within and external to Duke University. The platform contains adequate tools for communicating, organizing and collaborating around funding opportunities for easy sharing and working with fellow researchers.

- Sign up for a free Pivot account through the Pivot link above and click ‘sign up’ in the upper right hand corner, then select ‘Use Email Address/Create Password’. Once you’ve entered your Name, duke email and password, be sure to select ‘Duke University’ under the Affiliated Member Institution drop down. This will allow you to connect with other investigators and collaborators at Duke University.
NOTE: You will not be able to select ‘Use Institutional login credentials’ because Duke University will not populate in the list under the Institution drop down menu.

- Federal grants (Grants.gov) – Access the search grant function through Grants.gov and search federal funding opportunities to find the right FOA for you.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR FEDERAL AWARD APPLICATIONS:
- Applicants intending to submit an application for a federal award will follow the same grant submission review process instructions outlined on this site.
- Duke University applicants must submit federal grant applications through the official electronic submission system, Grants.Duke, and not directly through Grants.gov. Grants.Duke will route the application through grants.gov and to the respective sponsor.
- Applicants must have an active and up to date eRA Commons account in order to apply. Contact your grants manager asap of your intent to submit a federal award application and request the set up of a eRA Commons account. The GCA will set up the account and you will then need to complete the account profile to finalize the account.

Find which NIH institute/center matches your project
- Try NIH’s Matchmaker tool to find the best matching institutes and contacts. In the form, add scientific text such as an abstract, then choose the Similar Program Officials button (for contacts) or the Similar Projects button (for funded projects).
- Refer to the complete list of NIH Institutes, Centers and Offices to identify the Institute best matching your scope of work and access their websites to review the respective funding opportunities. Those of common interest to Nephrology applicants include:
- Check NIH Funding Opportunities Announcement (FOA) and understand funding opportunities.
Track the release of new award announcements and opportunities by NIH, by subscribing to some of the following methods below:
‘NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts’- Every week subscribers receive emails with the Current Weekly Table of Contents (TOC) from the NIH Guide to Grants and contracts. The TOC includes direct links to all funding opportunities and notices published that week and enables the subscriber to track the release of new announcements and opportunities. ‘NIH Extramural Nexus’- Stay informed of the latest news released by the NIH through NIH Extramural Nexus, a blog which highlights the most recent NIH articles, updates, webinars and funding opportunities. Access the website directly through the link above and subscribe to the NIH Extramural Nexus listserv and receive notifications of new posts by email. Click here to subscribe.
‘Customize Saved Search Notifications’ – Search the NIH Funding database for award opportunities. Select the save search option in the upper right corner of the search engine and get daily, weekly or monthly notifications when NIH publishes a funding opportunity or notice that matches the search in the future.
