Part-Time Job with Duke Office of University Scholars and Fellows; Apply by Jan. 31

By: John Zhu

The Office of University Scholars and Fellows (OUSF) is seeking a Duke graduate student to serve as the Carolina Summer of Service (CSOS) coordinator. This part-time, term-limited position entails helping to prepare Duke undergraduate students to embark on meaningful and community-focused service, as well as helping to oversee student engagement during the summer.

Job Duties:

  • Help prepare students for a summer of service by attending monthly pre-departure sessions in the spring 2022 semester.
  • Maintain regular communication with partner organizations and assist OUSF staff with troubleshooting issues that arise.
  • Adhere to and stay abreast of North Carolina and Duke COVID-19 safety orders and policies.
  • Hold regular 1:1 meetings with students throughout the summer.
  • Attend weekly all-group events during the summer.
  • Assist with the logistics for 2-3 local group excursions during the summer.
  • Contribute to the documentation of the CSOS program: photograph representative activities and events of the program.
  • Coordinate the end-of-summer celebration

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must be active graduate students at Duke University with a Bachelor’s degree in hand by August 2021. Applicants must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and have a student-centered approach to their work. The ideal candidate will have experience coordinating service-learning programs and working with college students.

This position runs from April 1 through July 31, 2022. Candidates must be Durham-based and be available for the entire duration of the program with regular and weekend availability required. Housing is not provided.

We anticipate that this position will require 10 hours per week during the spring semester and 15 hours per week during the summer. This position requires that the applicant does not already have or plan to procure a paid teaching or research position on campus, as graduate students are only permitted to work up to 19.9 hours a week total (policy here: https://gradschool.duke.edu/financial-support/payment-awards).
