The Academic Resource Center is seeking a graduate student to support its peer tutoring program and SAGE learning communities.

Job Title: ARC Graduate Assistant – Peer Tutoring

This position will support the ARC Peer Education, specifically the peer tutoring services. The position will start as soon as possible and continue through both the fall and spring semesters, with the potential for increased leadership and responsibility in the spring, 2022 semester.

Work Performed:

Assist with Program Operations – 40%

• Assist with the management the collection and input of peer tutor schedules in the tutor database and accompanying tutee scheduling platform.

• Assist with the management of a tutor leadership structure to include:

• Meet regularly with tutor leadership to check-in and receive feedback.

• Develop and deliver leadership training materials for team tutors/senior tutors.

• Evaluate team and senior tutors through semesterly performance evaluation.

• Curate tutor training materials to share on tutor Sakai page.

• Plan and organize professional development training throughout the semester.

Hire and Train Tutors – 40%

• Assist with the interviewing and hiring of peer tutors.

• Organize, coordinate and deliver the peer tutoring program new hire orientation at regular interviews throughout the semester.

• Collaborate with Academic Deans, SDAO, Library, OUSF, Duke LIFE, OUE, ARC staff, etc., to identify and recruit potential tutors.

• Develop and coordinate recruitment materials to promote and publicize the peer tutoring program.

• Assist with creating a master tutor handbook to include, but not limited to, policies, procedures, and training materials.

Data Reporting and Analysis – 10%

• Develop and evaluate tutee satisfaction surveys regarding tutorial services and the academic success of students requesting tutoring.

• Collect and interpret report data from the tutor database to monitor and assess the weekly progress of the program.

Other – 10%

• Develop and/or deliver workshops that meet the specific academic skills needs of student groups.

• Represent the ARC at tabling events.

• Develop new materials for the ARC, individual student meetings and group workshops. Revise current instructional materials in alignment with best practices in the field and the work of the ARC.

• Participate in ARC staff meetings and other ARC related meetings as needed.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Preferred Experience:

· Master’s degree in a STEM discipline, social science, or humanities is strongly preferred.

· At least 1 year of experience providing academic support, advising, teaching or related engagement with students in a higher education setting.

· Experience working with highly diverse undergraduate students.

· Fluency with desktop applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data management systems.

· An understanding of student cognitive, social, and emotional development and learning strategies at the post-secondary level.

· Strong oral, written, and intercultural communication skills.

Rate: $15 per hour
