Want to help build the future of transportation? Join Duke Hyperloop and help get our BluLoop to the SpaceX Hyperloop Competition!
At the competition, we will be contributing to research to demonstrate the Hyperloop Pod concept – a transportation concept in which levitating vehicles hurtle near the speed of sound through depressurized tubes!
The Hyperloop is not only fast – it is super energy efficient. The transportation sector produces a shocking 28.2% of U.S greenhouse gases – the Hyperloop has the potential to dramatically reduce that figure and help us build a more sustainable future.
Our club was only just founded last spring, so you could help build the first Hyperloop Pod prototype to be made at Duke! The BluLoop is relevant to many technical disciplines, including mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, controls, and electrodynamics.
Propulsion & Levitation: Engineer the electromagnetic systems which propel, levitate, and stabilize the pod above its track!
Electronics: Create the power systems that the power linear induction motor and other systems will require to run.
Computer Science: Integrate data from sensors across the pod and data from the pod’s control station to actively stabilize the pod, control the motor, and actuate the brakes.
Aerodynamics: Optimize the exterior shape of the pod for the unique operating conditions of the Hyperloop.
Structures: Design and build the carbon fiber frame of the pod, and spatially integrate all other systems of the pod.
Braking & Suspension: Design the pod’s brakes, which will need to quickly slow the pod from ~100m/s as quickly as possible! Design the suspension so the pod can maintain stable flight.
Business & Logistics: Enable everything we do by pursuing club sponsorships, running our social media pages and outreach, planning club events, and more!
