Bryan Rufener

    A native of the West Coast, Bryan relocated to Durham in 2013. He is currently an Associate Professor of Communication at a two-year institution and holds a Master’s in Communication and Leadership from Gonzaga University. In addition to his 15 years of professional experience in Higher Education, Bryan has worked for organizations including Fox Television (not Fox News) and the United States Department of Defense. His research interests include hegemonic masculinity, transracial adoption, and colorblind racism. Bryan is excited to join the GLS program and will also be pursuing a certificate in African and African American Studies. He is the father of two daughters, one of which is a current Duke undergrad. Outside of work and school, Bryan is an avid Duke Basketball fan and sneaker collector.
