Zimu Wang

Hi, I’m Angelina! I was born and raised in Shenzhen, a bustling city by the sea in Southern China. I spent four incredible years in New York studying English literature and Creative Writing—writing poetry is my way of keeping a diary. My MBTI’s ISFJ, which means I’m all about the details, and my poems can be about any small thing that happened in my life—a moment of flashback, a bump on the wardrobe, a snide comment heard, or a trip to somewhere gorgeous; the list goes on. Traveling fuels my creativity. Right now, New Zealand is at the top of my wishing list—what more could a Lord of the Rings fan ask for than to visit Middle-earth? Among the places I had been to, the Lake District in England holds a special place in my heart with its breathtaking landscapes and rich literary history—it’s my idea of heaven for wandering, recharging, or maybe just escaping. As a Chelsea fan (loyal through thick and thin!), you might just find me on a flight to London from time to time, too. And when travel is not an option, meet me in the world of The Sims. I’m super excited to dive into this new chapter at Duke GLS. I can’t wait to meet all of you and hear about your stories that’ll spark new inspirations. I can tell it’s going to be an unforgettable adventure ahead!

Please share the title of a book you’ve recently enjoyed and would recommend to your GLS colleagues. The Song of Everlasting Sorrow by Wang Anyi

What movie or television show that you watched recently would you recommend to the rest of us? Inside Out 2

Coming to the Duke GLS program, I hope to encourage the introvert inside me to be a little more extroverted, and to inspire the poet inside me to never stop writing.

We’re going to make a GLS 2024 playlist on Spotify. Please recommend a song to include that speaks to how YOU feel as you embark on this new learning journey. It could be something that you’re listening to a lot now or a longtime favorite that captures the moment for you.
