My name is Xueqi Zhang, but you can call me Charlotte. I hail from Yangquan City in Shanxi province, China, a place known for its anthracite coal production. Growing up there, I spent a lot of time with my grandparents, creating cherished memories. For my undergraduate studies, I earned my Bachelor of Science from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHKSZ). During my time there, I was greatly influenced by a Greek professor who taught social psychology and group psychology. My academic interests lie at the intersection of communication, politics, and psychology, particularly how social media and policy impact mental health and decision-making. During my master’s journey, I aim to delve deeper into these topics and contemplate pursuing a PhD in the future. Outside of academics, I enjoy swimming, a hobby I picked up from my undergraduate roommate. Although I’m only proficient in the breaststroke, I’m eager to learn more styles and make use of Duke’s impressive facilities. I also plan to hit the gym regularly, even though I’m a beginner, and would love to have workout buddies. I’m an animal lover and have a cat named Stock, who is staying with my parents back in China. I miss him dearly and hope to connect with fellow animal enthusiasts here. Additionally, I’m a novice cook, striving to improve my skills. If anyone has tips or recipes to share, I’d love to learn from you. Looking forward to connecting with you all!
