Fuqua Special Olympics

The Fuqua Special Olympics Club (FSO) is a social club that will empower the Fuqua community to connect socially, engage and support athletes, and fundraise for the Special Olympics of North Carolina.

In 1989, a group of Fuqua students decided to invite their friends from business schools to Durham to enjoy the spring weather and raise money for Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC). Since then, The FSO Club has hosted the annual Duke MBA Games, an event that has evolved into the most substantial student-run activity on campus, raising over $2.8 million for Special Olympics North Carolina.

Over the years, the club has developed a wonderful relationship with SONC and volunteers at athletic events and helps train athletes. Additionally, the club has added events throughout the year such as a golf tournament, pool party, silent auction, and a derby race to further promote SONC as well as interact with Special Olympic athletes and raise money.

Our goal is to create fun moments for the Fuqua community to rally around a cause, bringing the energy and enthusiasm necessary for our club’s sustained success. Each semester we will have one social, one volunteer, and one fundraising event. This will maximize our presence on campus and in the community without asking too much of our participants.

We will continue to engage with athletes through cheering at their sporting events and organizing scrimmages between Fuqua students and specific Durham Special Olympic teams.
