If you have forgotten your Economics password, please contact us and ask to have your password reset. The system administrators do not have any way of retrieving your old password but will generate a new random password for you that you can change via a Duke Box link.
You can change your Economics account password by using SSH/Putty or on a Mac go to Terminal to connect to “login.econ.duke.edu” from the campus network, or by using the Duke VPN client if you are connecting from off-campus.
Log into the Cisco VPN before logging into the Network. if you are not on campus. If you do not have it installed please download it here: Duke VPN
To Log onto the Econ Cluster
ssh (your_netID)@login.econ.duke.edu
example: ssh ab12@login.econ.duke.edu
You will need to complete Multi-Authentication:
Enter a passcode or select one of the following options:
- Duo Push
- Phone Call to..
- SMS passcodes to..
** Options may be different depending on how your Multi-Authentications options are set up.
- You can reset your temp password by logging into your account using the temp password.
- Use the command (passwd)
- Enter your current password (temp Password)
- Enter the desired password (This can be the same as OIT Password)
Example:
(your_netID)@login-01]$ passwd
Changing password for user (your_netID).
Current Password: (temp password)
New password:
* When resetting the password, the cursor will not move. Hit Enter after you finish typing.
