Ziliang(Lewis) Tian
Hi friends, my name is Ziliang(Lewis) Tian, a Junior majoring in Data Science and passionate about its application in the world of business. As for academics, I'm a detail-oriented person who enjoys taking on challenges and solving them collaboratively with other team members. My major equips me with data-driven way of thinking and the ability to do quantitative research. It's an exciting idea to have an interdisciplinary study of data science and economics. Watching a good movie with a couple friends or enjoying a good read has always been a great way for me to relax. In fact, one of my favorite reads is The Economist where I often find those articles related economics intriguing, and that is one of the motivations for me to take this fundamental course on economics. I'm also a football fanatic and a football player in the university football team, so feel free to join us or watch our games!
Weiran (Amelia) Li
Weiran Li is a sophomore at Duke Kunshan University and is a scholarship winner of the Kunshan municipal government. Under the liberal arts education system, she chose Global China Studies as her field of exploration. She has an abiding passion for literature, especially in creative writing, feature writing, and journalism. She had won first prizes in national composition competitions during her high school and is always keen to find and create new literary research methods and writing. She is the student editor of Duke Kunshan University Student Media Center and the intern host of Jinan TV Station. Right now, she is operating her own media account. In the future, she wants to spread Chinese culture worldwide through her media skills and a deeper understanding of Chinese literature.
Jinchen (Felix) Zhao
Jinchen Zhao is an applied-math major sophomore at Duke Kunshan University. He is interested in math and physics, so he is now working as a research assistant in the Collective Dynamics Lab. He has a great passion for Mathematical and Physical models because he appreciates the way scientists understand and predict the world using math and equations. In his free time, he likes to use spare money to make some investments. He finds many economic principles, including sunk cost and marginal benefit, can help him make decisions more effectively. Therefore, he is curious about how economics works and how production, consumption, saving, and investment interact in society. He also develops his interest in machine learning in course STATS102 and wonders how to apply machine learning in the field of economics and finance.
Peihan(Lorelei) Li
My name is Peihan (Lorelei) Li, currently, a junior majoring in data science, and always tries to explore its application in all kinds of areas, especially the economy. Adventuring in the wonderland of Data science gives me the greatest joy and the magic of solving problems by using some signals and signs motivates me to never stop learning. In my academic life, giving innovative ideas is my biggest characteristic and, as for the teamwork, serving as a bridge to build a harmonious atmosphere is always my talent. All kinds of girls’ stuff, such as TV series, outfits, photography, are the things I love. Most importantly, I have been learning Chinese traditional dancing since very young and it is still the top choice for relaxing myself. And, it is so fortunate that I have met have some other lovely dance lovers and got to run a Chinese dancing club together. Hope we can have great communication in the economy, data science, and even Chinese dance in the future.
Queena Zhong
Queena Zhong is a junior at Duke Kunshan University majoring in Environmental Science with Public Policy track. Aside from environmental science, she has a strong passion for psychology, specifically cognitive and behavioral psychology. Currently, Queena is a research assistant for the Third Space Lab under Humanities Research Center at DKU, working on a project that deals with transformative learning and conflict resolution in international education. Queena is actively involved in the student life community by being a Resident Assistant for two years in a row. She is also a Peer Responder in Peer For You, which is a newly established program under CAPS to promote students’ wellbeing by providing the space for DKU students to reach out to peers. One of her mottos is “Service Above Self”. Queena believes that self-growth is extremely important, and one of the best ways to contribute to personal growth is by doing service and helping others. This course will be her very first exposure to economics. She is considering becoming a consultant in the future, so she looks forward to learning more about professionalism and the business world, starting with economics.
Jingwei Li
Jingwei (William) Li is a sophomore at Duke Kunshan University. He is interested in both data analysis and business. Therefore, he plans to major in data science during his undergraduate stage and keep his further study in business analysis or finance. He is extremely curious about how the market works and how to combine 21st technology with the business world, which is also a big reason he chose to take econ101. In his spare time, he loves watching football matches, cycling and playing badminton. Sports can always make him energetic and excited. He is a member of the DKU badminton team as well.
Ziang (Alfred) Zhou
Ziang Zhou is a Junior majoring in Data Science in Duke Kunshan University. He currently works on Computational Paralinguistic Challenges and Applications. Ziang has been constantly working with Professor Ming Li from SMIIP Lab in the past two years and become increasingly capable in handling modern NLP, especially acoustic challenges. He is especially interested in applying biological detection technology supported by original backend algorithms to the protection of wildlives, especially the ones that are in danger. He is also interested in taking advantage of modern computational availability to create wealth and unique insight, that’s one of the reasons he chose to take ECON 101. Though this is his third year at DKU, economy remains a brand new field for him. He is very excited to engage in this course and see what difference this course will bring to him.
Yuxuan Wang
Yuxuan (Leo) Wang is a sophomore at Duke Kunshan University. He is interested in data analysis, math, and business. In this course, he expects to learn some basic concepts as well as theories in economics and develops an economic way of thinking. By taking this courses, he also wants to find out whether economics can be a potential major for him. He believes that combining data analysis skills with economics principals helps to solve economic problems. In his spare time, he loves to play badminton, table tennis and tennis. He is willing to have fun with all of you.
Junyu (Ally) Shi
Junyu (Ally) Shi is a sophomore at Duke Kunshan University. She is interested in Mathematics and Data Science because she is sensitive to numbers and data, and she was curious about solving problems of rigor. She once participated in the summer camp of Mathematics in East China Normal University and the winter camp of Economics in Xiamen University and learned more about the connection between math and economics. She also worked as an intern in an accounting firm. She chose this course not only because she is interested in economics, but also because her graduate study will be related to economics and finance. She wants to make her future choice through studying economics. In addition to her academic interests, she is interested and passionate in painting, video creation and editing. Recently, she is learning to use Premiere, Ae, Davinci Resolve, and at the same time, she is also helping the agency to complete the creation and editing of articles. The course may come to an end, but her motivation to learn will never die.
DARPAN BARUA
Hailing from the metropolis Dhaka in Bangladesh, Darpan Barua is the first representative of his country and is currently in the Freshman Class of 2024 at Duke Kunshan University. Darpan’s interests are largely based on Economics. He has also been a part of the first ever Bangladesh Team at the International Economics Olympiad 2019 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The team selection are among thousands and often require candidates to cross multiple rounds. His performance and persistence led him to be selected again for the National Team at the International Economics Olympiad 2020 (which was supposed to be held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan but now will be held online). He has had large interests in Consultancy and Business Cases from the advent of his high-school period. He has independently ventured into Data Science and is keen to further explore the major. He plans on majoring in Data Science/ Applied Maths and Computational Sciences and complete his graduate studies in Economics/ Finance. He is keen on understanding the implications of Artificial Intelligence into business strategies as well.
Yun-Yu Chen(Arthur Chen)
I’m Yun-Yu(Arthur) Chen, a freshman in Duke Kunshan University. I believe economics is the fundamental element in many fields. For instance,scientists need to understand how the markets work in modern society, so that they can be able to keep their project alive and stable their fund resources. In addition,since real world problems are often much more complicated, it is hard for we to solve them only relies on the expertise of one field. With multidisciplinary ability, we are able to think in different ways and harness different disciplines on complicated issues. This is why I enrolled in the Economics 101 courses, hope to enrich myself with the crucial ability and also to satisfy my interest in economics. On top of that, I’m also a big fan of pop music and basketball. I’m welling to know more about my peers in DKU. Wish we all have wonderful time in the university and hope I can be on campus soon.
Hengchen Liu (Tim)
Liu Hengchen is a freshman at Duke Kunshan University.Because of the average scores in all subjects in senior high school,he does not know what fields he is good at, so he does not know the specific direction in the future.He wants to explore multiple areas and discovers his interest before further learning.And he used to talk with his uncle who is a businessman,he told Liu that Liu could communicate with many strangers and this field could make a big difference in people’s abilities by talking to some high-level people.That is one of the reasons why he chooses this course. He wants to learn the basic theory of economics,the cultivation of economic thinking,and in the future life to practice the application of the content learned.At the same time,he hopes to improve his ability in all aspects. Meanwhile,he is a people person,so you can chat with him online whenever and wherever possible.And he comes from Jinan ,Shandong,it is a beautiful city of springs,lakes ,and mountains.So if you have spare time on holiday,you can travel to Jinan.Hope you all have a happy college life.
Le Zhuo(Noah)
Le Zhuo (Noah) is a freshman in Duke Kunshan University without any actual majors ,but he has a passion to enter into the world of economics and business .As a result , he takes this course to serve as his first step to a whole new field even he didn’t study anything about economics before. In this course , he highly expects to learn the concept of economics and gain a rational way of thinking .Moreover , he is eager to find out the relationship between market and economics and the potential bond between policy and finance . By the way ,Le is a native in Kunshan so if anyone wants to go out and have some fun ,he is always available(only if he doesn’t have numerous essays to accomplish).XD
Yuqi Wang
Yuqi Wang is a freshman at Duke Kunshan University. She was born in Jiangsu Zhenjiang, a beautiful scenic city in China. She is interested in the economy, mathematics and she wants to major in economics in the future. She is good at singing, dancing. She also passionate about participating in various sports activities like swimming and badminton. In her spare time, she usually travels to different places because traveling is of great value and promote self-development and then enhance personal growth. Via the learning of this course, she hopes to know more about the basics of economics and the whole structure of it. She is glad to meet all the teachers and classmates in class and wishes to make good friends with them.
Yutong (Danah) Quan
Yutong (Danah) Quan is a freshman at Duke Kunshan University. She has great interests in economics, psychology, and literature. Although she does not have a major now, she will try her best in this course. She believes this course will develop her abilities in researching, thinking, and analyzing. Furthermore, if there is an opportunity, she would like to make an effort in interdisciplinary subjects related to economics, psychology, and literature. Travel is one of the most important things in her life, she loves to enjoy the beautiful sights and diverse cultures all over the world. And she tends to be a messenger between different cultures on her journey.
Yuxi (Trudy) Jiang
Yuxi (Trudy) Jiang is a freshman of 2024 at Duke Kunshan University. She has the curiosity and passion to explore further about economics and global health. Although she couldn’t decide her professional direction now, she believes this course will help her to build a new perspective to understand the society and lead her to a more specific future. She is a person with various interests, like watching magical fantasy movies, reading detective novels, playing badminton, and basketball. Combining classroom learning and extracurricular activities together is the best way for her to keep positive and concentrated. By joining this course, Yuxi hopes to gain a brief introduction towards economics, especially how it influences our daily life. Afterward, she wants to use the knowledge into practice and try to solve some problems in her own life.
Siqi (Estella) Mao
My name is Mao Siqi, a freshman at Duke Kunshan University. I was born in Kunshan and had studied in Suzhou for 6 years so if you want to know something about this area, I would like to offer help. Also, I am interested in math and all of the subjects are amazing. I wish we could have a nice time together. Qinyue Lei/ Ray
Qinyue Lei is a freshman at DKU, who will probably major in Institutions and Governance/ Economics in the future. By taking this course, she wants to know more details about the principles and concepts of economics. Though she has never been exposed to economics before, she’s interested in human activities about economics in every stage of the history and would like to explore how economics can change the world or how one with adequate economic knowledge can adapt to the globe. She is also a volunteer of an organization aiming at providing help for leftover children and has been to remote mountainous areas for short-term volunteering many times. By cooperating with her classmates and professors in the following days, she hopes to figure out whether this major really suits her and learn more about it.

Jianing(Catherine) Tian is a freshman at Duke Kunshan University. She is interested in Economics and Media and Arts. They seem like two different majors, but she wants to explore both. She thinks economy is not only essential for her future academic but also a tool that will help a lot in her later career and life. She wants to develop an ability to think like an economist. I decided to transfer my major from social science to economics related major this summer, so this is my first economic course. Hello, everyone, I am Julia, a sophomore now at Duke Kunshan University. I probably will major in Political Economy with Track in Economics.. However, this is the first time that I took class about economics. I’ve had experience of learning Chinese history, port cities history of Southeast Asia and American history during my first year’s study at DKU. Ruohan Wang
Ruohan Wang(Yolanda) is a freshman in Duke Kunshan University.She currently has an interest in Economics and Political Science, but she is dying to explore more under the liberal arts education system.She is longing to apply the knowledge she learns in Economics to real life situations.She dares to challenge herself in her studies and express her ideas, which might don't have a point at most of the time. In her free time she loves watching movies and singing.She was once the lead singer of an underground band called HITCHHIKERS which only released two songs.Sadly, this band didn’t last since its members cannot manage their homework in high school.
Yuming Gong (Lisa)
Yuming Gong, a liberal arts student, is a freshman at Duke Kunshan University. Since she is quite enthusiastic about exploring the unknown world and wants to go out of her comfort zone, she chooses to try some science courses to broaden her horizons. She found economics interesting when she studied some economic theories in her high school’s political classes, therefore she chose ECON101 for session one. Driven by autonomy of learning and exploration, she never stops developing more interests and hobbies. She enjoys piano and singing, and is learning to play the guitar. She has won several awards in writing and speech. The participation in activities like simulated political consultative sessions also instilled in her the sense of obligation to do her part to solve real life problems. She hopes to learn economic theories and problem-solving skills in future courses as well as making more friends who are so excellent as future leaders.
Jiyuan Wang
Jiyuan is a freshman from Jiangsu Province. He has not decided what to major in in his undergraduate stage. However, he always has the curiosity and the energy to explore every interesting major. Through the ECON 101 course, he wants to learn some basic knowledge about the economy. In his opinion, economy can be used everywhere. In the market, supply and demand affect prices. In the stock exchange, stocks are a kind of valuable securities. Even in the queue, whether change a line will use the knowledge of opportunity cost. He likes to play video games when free. So, it may be a challenge for him to read too much reading material. He hopes he can develop a good learning habit through DKU’s unique learning environment.
Giulia de Cristofaro
Giulia de Cristofaro is a freshman at Duke Kunshan University who is thinking about majoring in Political Economy. She is the first Brazilian student at DKU and hopes to be on campus soon. She has never had exposure to Economics other than a very succinct two-week summer course at Oxford. It gave her a very superficial view of the material and made her realize it could be quite an interesting topic to study. Therefore, with this course, she hopes to get a real idea of what economics is and fully understand the principles of economics and how they are applied in the real world. During her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball. Since she has an Italian father, traveling has always been a part of her life. Consequently, she has developed a curiosity and passion for learning languages and exploring different cultures. She believes that DKU will offer her amazing opportunities to conciliate a challenging education with her eagerness to discover. Meiyi (Mae) Guo
Hi everyone, my name is Meiyi Guo, you can call me Meiyi or Mae for short, either way is fine. I am a registered Beijing citizen but my hometown is in Kaifeng, Henan, and I also have living experience in the US. Having lived in places with very different lifestyles and in cities in different stages of development, I grew interest in economics, business, and financial areas of study. Through this course, I hope to learn about the fundamental concepts and main knowledge in economy. I am also interested in math and it has been the only subject I enjoyed learning while growing up, even when there are many difficulties. During my free time, I enjoy listening to all genres of music and watching movies. Some of my favorite music artists are Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Jessie J, Adele, BigBang, Blackpink, Zico, ect, and my favorite actor is Leonardo Dicaprio. Hope I can find friends that share the same interest, and also become friends with people that have different interests.
Josh Manto (蘇福利)
Josh Manto (蘇福利) is a freshman at Duke Kunshan University. He is interested in taking up Economics as his primary major; studying the possible applications of econometrics and data science in the business field. As such, Josh previously set up and managed his own visa-processing company, working alongside Philippine government agencies and Chinese clients to process work permits (SWPs&9Gs) for Chinese workers. With a professional-working proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, Josh is actively looking for opportunities to connect the world to China, and bring China to forefront of the 21st century. He is interested in forging strong connections with people, and hence is always on the lookout for opportunities to set up new businesses and, most importantly, make money (and donating to charity too). Josh is looking forward to deepening his knowledge on Economics by participating in DKU’s ECON101 course, and (potentially) doing research with his professor and classmates.
Jiaheng Zhang
Hi everyone, my name is Jiaheng Zhang,and you can call me Chris.I‘m a freshman here. Although I do not have a precise goal, but I hope I can major in data science, maths economy. Part of the reason why I hnthuave esiasm for economy is that both of my parents work in the bank. Therefore I’ve been deeply influenced and exposed in an environment where my parents often talk about issues about bank. I really enjoy playing football.I’m a fan of Christiano Ronaldo.It is not only his excellent skills but also his perseverance and diligence appeal me.And his quality inspire me not to give up every time when I encounter obstacles. Yuwei Gu
Hello everyone! My name is Yuwei Gu and I’m a sophomore student in Duke Kunshan University. I’m from Wuxi, Jiangsu province. I plan to major in media and arts with the creative practice track, for I enjoy the world of image and sound. Beside that I also hope to explore the principles of economics, as they offers a way to understand how the society around us works, and I grow interest in economics when I take related classes in high school. Chenzhao (Keven) Yan
Hello everyone, my name is Chenzhao Yan. And you can call me Keven. I come from Anshan, Liaoning , a very beautiful city in the northeast of China. And snow is usual to see there. As for the famous tourist interests in Anshan, Mount qian is the first you are support to choose. What's more, the 219 park, which has a long history, is your another choice. In the park, you can not only enjoy the natural scenery, but also go boating and even go to the amusement park. I speak a little northwest accent.And my hobbies are playing badminton The Rubik's cube and travelling. I have been to many places. For example, Europe, America, Korea , the southeast Asia …The reason why I choose DKU is that the teaching idea is very suitable for me. At this campus, we can exchange opinions with each other and finally get a better answer. It can not only exercise our thinking and communication skills，but also help us make more friends. Naol Basaye
Naol Basaye is a sophomore at Duke Kunshan University. He is passionate about economics and is hoping to major in Data Science or related field. Highly interested about Financial Markets, Digital Marketing, and Neuromarketing, he is passionate about and eager to learn, at any and all opportunities, about Marketing. Naol often combines his interest in the business world and his hobby of media arts to study varying topics in the business world and present it, visually attractive, over the internet. Naol runs a small Charity Organization, named Pen for Child, since 2015 and worked as an assistant to the Specialist of University Branding and Marketing at Duke Kunshan University. He hopes to one day become a significant and influential figure in his field and the world to effect good.
