As a sports medicine physician, my role in the Department of Duke Orthopaedics is to take care of patients who are injured or in pain that do not need surgery. I first became interested in sports medicine as an athlete in college. I noticed that several of my teammates and I had injuries and needed help but never needed surgery. I have always been fascinated by how our bodies work and heal. Our bodies have an amazing ability to heal themselves. At Duke, we have great surgeons that could repair or replace almost anything. My goal is to help people get back to their activity and become healthy as soon as possible without using surgery. This can be done with ultrasound guided procedures such as injections of corticosteroids, platelet rich plasma (PRP), and stem cells. Minimally invasive procedures can reduce pain and cost as well as get people back to their sports and activities faster.
